The weather has offically started to change here in Toronto and that means I’m starting to change up my hair routine .  For the last couple of weeks I have been flat ironing (gasp) I know, the heat is not good, but I do use a Kerastase Heat Prtoectant when ironing.   I do plan on perfecting my roller set.  I had tried a couple of times on some cool days this summer and I practically ended up in tears.  I am committed though and know that I need to perfect the set and try to get that Dominican Hair experience in the comfort of my own home.  If you haven’t had a dominican lady set and blow out you hair – you are definitely missing something.

Dominican’s are SERIOUS when it comes to hair.  If you have never been to a Dominican hair salon and have kinky, curly, wavy or even relaxed hair – they are a MUST!  Seriously, if you want to fall in love with your hair all over again – experience a Dominican Blow Out and exactly that will happen.  Unfortunately, there aren’t a many Dominican hair spots here in Toronto (my fave is Martha’s Beauty Centre on Jane near Finch) however if you are in Montreal there are several to choose from (I’ll post locations in a separate post).  But if you hit up the NYC or other states south of border you are bound to buck up on a DR hair place.

WHY THEY ARE GOOD?

If you want super straight, super silky, super soft, full-bodied flowing hair – the Dominican blowout is for you.  Even if you hair is curly, frizzy, coarse or kinky they know how to tame your locks.

THEIR SECRET?

Weekly deep conditioning treatments, rollers, a hot blow dryer and a round brush.

MAKE IT LAST!

Before you leave, make sure they teach you how to do a doobie.  At night wrap your hair with silk scarf or sleep on silk pillowcases.  The style should last you a week, if not more.

Liquid Keratin Products

Have you heard about this new hair treatment called Liquid Keartin 30 Day Straight, Smooth, Strong and Long.  Geared towards people with curly, frizzy, unmanageable hair, where after 1 application it promises straight smoother, softer frizz free mane.  Apparently it contains no toxic chems like formaldehyde and is supposed to be an at home safe treatment.

So this is how it supposed to work – cleanse with their Keratin Infusing Healthy hair De-Frizz shampoo, towel dry and then apply the 30 day treatment, letting it penetrate for 30 minutes.  Blow dry, then flat iron to seal keratin peptide and protein to hair shaft.  Keep hair dry and straight for at least 48 hours for best results.  Check out the before and after results on their website.

I wonder if this would work on ethnic or multi-racial hair and if any damage would occur.  I’m not gonna lie – even though I’m a curly I still love wearing my hair straight – it’s just such a hassle.  The starter kit retails for $69 – if it ever comes across my desk at work – perhaps I will give it a try or maybe have one of my Curl Advisors try it out.
