TV ALERT: Lady O is chatting about Good Hair

Oprah at TIFFLast week, my friend let me know that Oprah was on the look out for women who had given up their addiction to the creamy crack so that she can feature them on her show.  Unfortunately, by the time that I went to check out the open call it had already been taken down.  Well now I know why – Wednesday’s (sept 30th) epi of Oprah is all about HAIR.  I’m sure Oprah will take this opp to discuss her thoughts on hair and will once again clear up the rumours that she is not rocking a weave and is all natural.  Watch the promo here.

Girl Talk About “Good” Hair with Chris Rock

Perms, extensions, highlights…secrets exposed! Then, why Beyonce’s sister Solange chopped it all off. Plus, Oprah’s own hair history unraveled! Emmy-winning comedian Chris Rock talks to Oprah about his new documentary, Good Hair. Plus, Beyoncé’s little sister, singer Solange Knowles.

**Just a quick side note – Oprah was in town (Toronto) to promote her movie Precious which she executive produced.  If you haven’t seen it – all I can say is - Powerful!  Kudos to all the cast, especially Monique.  I hear Oscar nom and dare I say it…a win.

Do you have “good hair”?

tyrashowI have to admit that I’m not exactly a fan of the Tyra Banks show, but she will be delving into an interesting topic tomorrow (Tuesday) on Good Hair.  The debate over what is considered “good hair” never seems to excape the black community and tomorrow Tyra will take a stab at the never ending conversation.  And apparently, its not an issue that just plagues the black community.  I’m sure tomorrow’s show will get people very heated.

Read the preview and check out the promo:

Do you have that “good hair?” In the African-American community, “good hair” often refers to hair that’s not kinky, coarse or short. Tyra talks to women from within the community to investigate the effects their hair has on their self-esteem and more. Later, we’ll even meet little girls and their moms who all have different opinions on “good hair.”

Top Model Makeovers

antm12grp

I know I’m posting this late – but its too big not too. I’m trying a new polling feature on the site so I thought this would be the perfect opp to try it out – hopefully it works. Ok, so Top Model on Wednesday was all about the wannabes getting their hair makeovers. Tyra and the gang took the ladies some upscale hair salon to get cuts, colours, extensions and as ususal, it was followed by cheers and tears. Honestly, this show has been around for like 12 seasons and I dont understand why we still get tears from some of these girls. WE all know that Tyra is going to jack up their hair and if they are looking to be on Top they better accept that. Anyhow, check out SOME of the makeovers and make sure to cast your vote on who’s hot and who’s not.

Colour and Texture on ANTM cycle 12

In case you missed it – America’s Next Top Model premiered last night on ‘A’  in Canada and the CW in the US.  Tyra brought the girls to Las Vegas to widdle down the semi-finalist to the top 13 ladies.  As usual, Tyra and the Jays were bringing all kinds of crazy  – I think they all really like to dress up.  Anyhow, here’s a look at some of the finalist with the textures and tones.  So far I’m liking Fo and Thalia – and Sandra – she’s nuts.

Rip the Runway

riptherunwayIn just because news…BET’s annual Rip the Runway event is taking place in the NYC this Saturday, February 21st at the Hammerstein Ballroom.  Oh how I miss NY!  Hosted by the lovely, yet no make up wearing Joy Bryant and Derek Luke the event features designers Akoo, Protégé’ and Project Runway’s Korto Momolu (yay!) and Johnny Vincent Swimwear.  They have a slew of artist on deck set to perform including TI, The Dream and gangsta for life Mavado (big up the reggae massive).  Guaranteed for fly fashion and of course fly hair – must watch.  (Anissa, I’m sure we will watch together as usual).  Hopefully I can post some new pics on Monday.

Rip the Runway will premiere on BET on Monday, March 2 at 9 PM ET/PT and will re-air on Thursday, March 5 at 8 PM and Friday, March 6 at 10 PM

‘da kink

‘Da Kink is back….

Season 2 of the Gemini award winning Canadian show ‘Da Kink In My Hair premieres on Thursday, February 12th on Global at 9:30 PM ET/PT. If you haven’t watched this show -- its definitely worth checking it out. Originally a theatre production, the creators (Trey Anthony and Ngozi Paul) have done a great job of adapting it for TV audiences. Featuring an all black cast, the show is set in Eglinton West (Toronto) and centers around the happenings at Letty’s hair salon. And we all know what happens in a hair salon…

The cast includes Ordena Stephens, Trey Anthony, Ngozi Paul, Richard Fagon and Conroy Stewart. Plus this season will also feature guest stars -- Vivica A. Fox, songstress Kreesha Turner, Juno nominee Divine Brown, WWE alumnus Trish Stratus, comedians Shaun Majumder and Jessica Holmes.

If you’re Canadian and you like comedy -- make sure to watch! As a member of the media I know the importance of supporting Canadian talent and TV productions. This is one of the few diverse TV shows on the air right now -- especially in Canada. And we need more! I love it when TV shows feature a cast that look like me -- don’t you?
