Mrs Jay Z is a cover girl – AGAIN! With her tour continuing throughout the summer it will be another Beyonce filled season. This month she covers two magazines (so far) German Glamour and Marie Claire (June 2009).
I feel like this week has been mag week on Curlista – so I just had to post the latest cover of Essence that came out earlier this week. Essence scored this MAJOR EXCLUSIVE with First Lady Michelle Obama, 45 and her Mom, Mrs. Marion Robinson, 71 – good job Essence. Michelle is such a breath of fresh air and clearly an inspiration to all modern day women. I’m glad that she has her mom as a strong confidant to support her.
Here’s what she told the mag:
“My mom is an incredibly intelligent and insightful person about life in general. From the time we could talk, she talked to us endlessly about any and everything with a level of openness and fearlessness that made us believe that we were bright enough to engage with an adult, that we were worthy enough to ask questions and to get really serious answers-and she did it with a level of humor. There were many times when we were in the midst of getting spanked or disciplined and she would start cracking up. She taught my brother and me not to take things so seriously; to work hard, but to learn to laugh at situations and laugh at yourself and then to move through it.”
Diva supermodel Naomi Campbell sexes us the May cover of Giant Magazine. The retro inspired cover has Campbell sporting a big curly fro, frayed white cut-offs with a check shirt tiedat the waste. Work!!! For the cover story, Naomi dishes on the trials and tribulations of her personal and professional life – I’m sure its gonna be juicy.
Halle Berry is pretty in pink on the May 2009 cover of Harper’s Bazaar. In the beautiful spread – she sports a playful curly do’ and some fab gowns. Simply gorge Ms. Berry! Here’s what the 42-year old stunner told the mag-
Says Halle: “My pregnancy was amazing. I was happy that whole time, I felt good. I had energy, I felt like Superwoman. I wish I could feel like that for the rest of my life, that’s how fantastic it was.” But she adds: “Having a baby takes so much from you. It’s the most glorious thing you’ll ever do, but the aftermath is not so glorious! So now I’m having to exercise, eat a little bit differently, take a lot more vitamins.”
As for whether she plans to marry partner Gabriel Aubry? “No. I’m done,” Miss Berry reveals. “I happened to find a person who feels done too, and he’s never been married before. So it works.

Lately, Jill Scott has been popping up everywhere – from the covers of magazines to her new starring role on HBO’s new series ’The No. 1 Ladies Detective Series’ airing on Sunday’s at 8 PM ET. Anyhow, I will be doing a Jill Scott Hair Evolution post later on this week - so make sure to watch out for that. Here’s what she told Jet Magzine:
Three-time Grammy-winning singer Jill Scott is counting down the days before she gets to lay eyes on what she calls her most precious gift yet. The soon-to-be-mom, whose due date is April 25, looks forward to her little one, since past doctors told her that she was unable to conceive. He’s my little warrior, Scott told Jet magazine. So far, he’s been to Africa with me, he’s worked in extreme heat and during 14-15 hour days. He’s hung in there with me through this whole thing and I just cannot get over it. This is incredible.
If things had gone as intended, Scott would have married Lil John Roberts, 37, her band’s drummer, last month. The pregnancy, however, has since altered their plans. We are just people, of course, so we have to deal with one thing at a time. We may get married. We may not. Who knows? We don’t. We’re just taking it as slow as we can.
Yesterday, I visited my local Chapters Bookstore to check out some stuff and came across the April issue of Essence. Taraji, Iman and Serena look stunning -the pink tones against their brown caramel skin is totally fab! I definitely need to pick up a pink maxi dress for spring/summer 2009. Anyhow, I read the article (I know this issue has been out forever) but for those of you who haven’t read the mag (we are in a recession, so its understandable) I decided to share some of their fave hair products.

Just read a cool article from the Feb/March 2009 issue of Verve Girl featuring a how-to-guide on creating iconic curls. Check out the article to get step-by-step instructions to achieve: starlet curls of the 50’s, the 60’s beachy bohemian wave, the 70’s fro and the big hair of the 80’s.
My favorite is the afro – here’s how to get the look:
Step 1: On clean hair, apply your favorite product (mouse, pudding, setting lotion) – whatever works best for your hair.
Step 2: Section off hair – I usually do four sections (two in the front, two in the back) and then I usually section off from there.
Step 3: Using half or quater inch sections, roll hair away from the face. Perm rods, small rollers or bendables all work well.
Step 4: Let hair air dry completely (will take a while) or use a hooded dryer on medium for faster drying.
Step 5: Remove rollers and work a smoothing balm into curls. I suggest seperating each curl for extra volume. And voila -a retro hairdo with a modern twist.

She also reveals the lil thing she does that gets on Jay’s nerves: “I’m a little messy. Oh, yeah. Whenever I’m out in public, I have to be put together. When I get home, I rebel against it and I don’t want to take care of anything. I drop it. I’m relaxed. I don’t have any shoes on. No makeup. My purse is in the kitchen. I think that is most difficult thing for him. He’s very, very organized. I’m extremely organized when I’m working, and I work so much that when I get home I don’t want to think about anything.”
